A carful of kids led police on a chase in what officials said was a stolen car on Saturday.
An 11-year-old was driving the stolen vehicle and had two passengers in tow: an 8-year-old and a 12-year-old, Newburgh Heights Police Chief John Majoy said, according to NBC News affiliate WKYC in Cleveland.
A license plate reader notified police that the car was stolen, Majoy told WKYC. When police tried to stop the car, it took off, engaging officers in a car chase.Majoy said the car made an abrupt left turn, lost control and smashed into the side of a house. No one was injured in the crash or pursuit.
Daniel Reilly was upstairs watching TV when the car slammed into his home. He told WKYC that he heard a "bang and a lot of noise." Reilly added that there was only minor damage to his home and that he is glad the crash wasn't worse.
After the crash, Majoy said the kids fled the scene but were quickly caught. He said they told police that they learned how to steal cars on YouTube.
Majoy said the kids cracked open the steering column used a USB device "to basically hot wire the car to get it started," according to WKYC.
The kids were all released to their parents and will face charges in juvenile court, Majoy said.
"This has got to be a record for the youngest driver in a pursuit that I've ever seen,” Majoy told WKYC. "11-years-old for God's sake, that's incredible."
